Brother UK conducted a Workplace Organisation Survey, interviewing more than 2,000 UK office workers. They uncovered the effect that a disorganised desk can have on everyday life – and some of the results are quite shocking.

• 2 in 5 admit that a messy desk directly affects their performance 

• 1-in 3 office workers could be missing out on a promotion because they have a messy desk

• £148 is the average cost incurred through having a messy and disorganised desk 

• 33% have lost items worth between £10 to £500

• 49% said and untidy work space affects how they feel about going to work each day 

• Office workers with tidy and organised desks are 53% in control, 52% more productive and 48% happier

• 70% of managers perceive those with an untidy work space as being disorganised

It’s totally understandable. When you’re busy working hard, whilst also in some cases focusing on home-schooling, or your attention is just divided that day, you must focus on just getting through your to-do list. Naturally this can make it very difficult for you to keep your desk tidy. Your desk can become mounted with all sorts!

But as we’ve outlined, your messy desk could be affecting your productivity. Not only this, but also your well-being, your wallet and in some cases, even your chance of getting a promotion.
