Derived from stingray, it’s important that Shagreen is made from sustainable resources. It is otherwise called ‘Galuchat’ after the artisan trader, Jean-Claude Galuchat, who brought it into popularity in the mid-18th century.
Shagreen is a truly exotic, richly textured, strong material which has been used for centuries as a decorative surface. And for the last century shagreen has been used to add a touch of luxury to interiors. Embraced by the Art Deco movement in the 1920s and 1930s, Shagreen was used for interior panelling, furniture and accessories and barware.
